#FosterFateFriday is a very special story to tell…
Piper was one of the 116 Dobermans from the South Carolina breeder that was shut down September 23, 2016. Piper was one of the first 15 dogs confiscated and held in South Carolina until the case was over in February 2017.
John Williams is a rescuer in the true sense of the word and made five trips to South Carolina during this whole case. Rescuing over 30 dogs in that time, but it was this last trip in February 2017 that John would meet Piper.
Piper was one of the most fearful dogs when we arrived that cold morning in February to pick up 12 dogs and she had to be carried to the car. We had planned to bring her back to Doberman Underground but when putting her in the vehicle all of a sudden a holy terror came out in her and the crocodile roll started and Piper got out of her collar. John took off down the country highway after her and tackled Piper before she could get away. Even as Piper was biting John he did not release her and we got her back to the vehicles and put her into a crate.
The vehicle with the crates was heading off to other rescues working with us on fostering these dogs, so Piper went away.
It was a month later when we heard that Piper was not doing well and still biting at anyone that tried to open her cage or touch her. We reached out the rescue to have Piper released to us and with rescues working together for the better of the dog we got her back. Once again John was in the car driving hundreds of miles to pick up Piper.
John knew to give Piper time. He sat in the basement for days letting Piper get use to him, with the other dogs in the home around also the healing started. Getting a leash on her was the first challenge, and then John began to get her out into public little by little, but again it would be the other dogs that would help Piper learn what needed to be done.
As Piper’s trust grew with John, his wife Charlotte and their daughter Sarah it became obvious that her eyes only brightened for them and her joy was when she was with them.
Today we are happy to announce that John, Charlotte and Sarah are adopting Piper and this misused and abused dog will never again know distrust of a human. ❤️🐾
