On 6/27/17 we received a call from a county shelter in Tennessee regarding a 2yo male Doberman. He had jumped from his owner’s moving convertible, where he sustained a broken leg, cuts and severe road rash. The owner took him to the vet but he refused to allow the vet to provide any medical treatment as well as refusing to purchase inexpensive pain pills to help alleviate the dog’s pain. At that time the vet took action and had the owner surrender the dog, they contacted the county shelter. One of our volunteers jumped in the car immediately to get this boy.
6/28/17 – Our vet informed us that Teddy would need to have surgery to repair his broken leg. We were thankful that the leg could be fixed and the medical cost would be just under $2000 for his surgery and required medication. Later in the day prior to surgery the vet felt Teddy would require more fluid to help stabilize him for the extensive surgery so his surgery was reschedule to 6/29/17 at 8am.
6/29/17- The surgery was a success. The bone is back in place and from the Xray you can see the screws and plates holding his leg together. With his age and nice job on repairing the damage he should be good as new in a couple of weeks. But right now he is confused and in a lot of pain and this weekend the real challenges will start as we get him up and moving.
We have amazing foster homes that jump in to something most of us have never dealt with. Teddy will need to be kept inactive for 10 weeks to allow that leg to heal and we will have to see what type of therapy work he may require.
07/3/17 – An update on Teddy from his foster mom:
“I’m sharing so you stay a bit updated on Teddies recovery, I know these are graphic photos but really this is an amazing improvement. We have taken it slowly this boy has been traumatized physically and emotionally in his young life, we are building trust starting from scratch, He loves his nickname T bird 🐦 I don’t know why.. lol loves PB with every med dose, I can’t imagine the pain he’s felt seems he’s never known true love.. Driving back with him and over the past few nights my Momma Bear gear kicked in overdrive from the pain he’s endured, from feeling helpless for him, to pure rage at his owners neglect, I have No words for the roller coaster of events that transpired to Save this amazing boy but I’m grateful to an amazing group of people that came together for him, Strangers quickly working together becoming Friends in Rescue for Teddies benefit this is true Rescue, if we are truly known by the company we keep then I’m honored to be surrounded by only the best. Teddy and I thank you.”
