Welcoming Cash and Rosanne: A Dynamic Senior Duo

#WelcomeWednesday brings a special introduction to our two newest senior companions, Cash and Rosanne. This dynamic duo, though inseparable in spirit, may soon find themselves embarking on separate journeys as they search for their forever homes.

Cash, the distinguished black and tan male, boasts 8 years of wisdom, while his companion Rosanne, a graceful fawn female, brings 10 years of experience to the table. Though their bond is undeniable, we recognize that finding a home for both together may prove challenging. Thus, we're preparing to separate them for adoption, each with the hope of finding companionship in another canine friend.

Both Cash and Rosanne will be eligible for our SOS program (Seniors Owning Seniors), a testament to the immeasurable joy and unconditional love that senior dogs bring into our lives. Owning a senior dog is a profound blessing, offering companionship, wisdom, and a depth of love that is truly unmatched.

It’s #TrainingTuesday! All of our adopters are required to attend training with a professional trainer. Some adopters choose group lessons for obedience, agility, rally, or other fun classes. Some adopters choose private lessons to target specific aspects of their new dog’s personality. We know training and structure is critical for the success of our dogs and their adopters. Bonus…training is fun and provides an excellent opportunity for bonding and socialization!
One of our board members adopted her foster. With 40+ years of experience training her dogs for obedience and 12 years of Therapy Dog work with 3 dogs, she was excited to get started with puppy classes once all the puppy shots were completed. However, life has a way of throwing curveballs and things didn’t turn out exactly as planned. We’re excited to have her chronicle their training journey, including all the bumps in the road. Today, we’ll start at the beginning of the story.
Oliver’s momma was just one year old when she was re-homed by her owner to a nice couple who were looking for a pet. Unaware their new dog was pregnant, she shocked them just one week later by giving birth to 6 male puppies on Christmas Eve! Surprise! The pups were born and lived outside for their first 8 weeks of life. At that point, the couple decided the best they could do was find an experienced Doberman rescue that would safely adopt out Momma and her puppies. Doberman Underground to the rescue!
Oliver was the biggest of all the boys, and it was love at first sight and it turned into a #FosterFate adoption, blissfully unaware of twhat would be a challenging year to come.
